Vauxhall Astra Electric Battery

The Vauxhall Astra Electric uses a 54 kWh lithium-ion NMC battery pack with 50.8 kWh of usable energy. This pack grows to 58 kWh for the December 2025 facelift models. The current car travels 258–282 miles based on the WLTP range standard. It charges from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes using 100 kW DC fast charging.

A single 156 hp front-wheel-drive motor powers the car. It accelerates from 0–62 mph in 9.2 seconds. The 2026 facelift, starting at £29,995, features updated styling and new infotainment. It also increases the battery size to 58 kWh to improve driving range.

Vauxhall builds the Astra Electric as both a hatchback and a Sports Tourer estate. The car uses the same STLA Medium platform found in the larger Peugeot E-3008.

The Astra: Familiar Package, Electrified

The Astra Electric uses the Stellantis STLA Medium platform. This setup also supports the gas and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions of the car. The electric model holds 102 battery cells in 17 sections under the floor. This design keeps the inside space the same as the gas version. Passengers and luggage have just as much room as before. The Sports Tourer estate model offers a full 488-liter trunk. This gives it a big advantage over many other electric cars.

The Astra Electric goes from 0 to 62 mph in 9.2 seconds. This is slower than most other small electric cars. Vauxhall designed the car to be a comfortable, efficient daily driver rather than a fast sports car. It uses only 14.9 kWh of energy for every 100 kilometers. This makes it very efficient. In tests, the car accurately predicted its range. Drivers lost exactly 40 miles of range after driving for 40 miles.

The 2026 Facelift: Price Drop and Battery Growth

The December 2025 facelift brought key improvements to the vehicle. The battery capacity grew from 54 kWh to 58 kWh, improving the range from 258 miles to about 282 miles (WLTP). This range measurement helps people understand how far an electric vehicle can travel on one charge.

The starting price dropped from about £34,995 to £29,995. This price change makes the car one of the most affordable compact electric family cars in the UK. Designers also updated the outside look with an illuminated grille and a new Griffin logo.

Engineers refreshed the infotainment system for faster response times. This change addresses the main complaint people had about the older model’s interior.

Real-World Range

  • Summer, mild weather mixed driving: Approximately 200–225 miles — Cinch’s testing showed the Astra’s range estimator to be remarkably accurate
  • City driving: Up to 295 miles possible — excellent urban efficiency from the 4.2 miles/kWh consumption figure
  • Winter at −10°C, motorway: Approximately 140 miles worst-case per EV Database modelling — no heat pump on any Astra Electric trim
  • Motorway at 70 mph (summer): Approximately 200 miles — the STLA Medium platform’s efficient motor helps maintain reasonable efficiency at speed

No Heat Pump Available

The Vauxhall Astra Electric does not offer a heat pump — on any trim level. This mirrors the sibling Peugeot E-308 (where it is optional). For UK and northern European buyers, this significantly limits the winter range. Cabin heating draws directly from the battery — reducing usable range by 25–35% in freezing conditions. At £29,995 for the 2026 facelift, the Astra Electric’s value proposition is strong — but buyers in cold climates should carefully factor in the winter range penalty.

Battery Warranty and Reliability

Vauxhall covers the Astra Electric battery with an 8-year / 100,000-mile warranty against defects. The vehicle warranty is 3 years / 60,000 miles. Vauxhall ranked 29th out of 31 brands in the 2024 What Car? Reliability Survey — a concerning result for prospective buyers. The Astra Electric’s STLA Medium platform is shared with better-scoring Peugeot and Citroën siblings — reliability outcomes may improve as the platform matures.

Charging Tips for Vauxhall Astra Electric Owners

  • Set daily charge to 80%: NMC benefits from avoiding constant 100% — 80% of 55 kWh provides ~44 kWh, covering 185+ miles of daily driving without stressing cells
  • Take advantage of the “Electric All In” offer: The 2026 facelift includes 10,000 miles of free home charging, 8 years’ roadside assistance, and a £500 wallbox contribution — confirm this offer is current at purchase
  • Plan for shorter winter range: Without a heat pump, cold-weather range drops significantly — avoid planning journeys close to the car’s limit in winter months
  • Sports Tourer owners: The estate version’s 488-liter boot makes it one of the most practical affordable electric estates available — use the extra space to carry slow charger cables for public AC top-ups on longer trips

Conclusion

The Vauxhall Astra Electric battery grew from 54 kWh to 58 kWh with the December 2025 update. This change gives the car a WLTP range of about 282 miles, while the price now starts at a competitive £29,995. If you want a larger SUV body style on the same STLA Medium platform, check out our Peugeot E-3008 battery guide.

However, the car does not have a heat pump, and Vauxhall’s position in reliability surveys is a concern. Even with those drawbacks, the 2026 Astra Electric is now one of the most affordable compact electric cars in the UK that offers a 280-mile range.
