The BYD Atto 2 offers two battery choices in Europe. The 45.1 kWh battery provides 174 horsepower, while the 64.8 kWh battery provides 201 horsepower. Both batteries use NMC technology. The 45.1 kWh version travels about 194 miles on a charge. A 51.1 kWh version sold in the UK goes a bit farther.

The 64.8 kWh model travels 267 miles on a full charge. You can use DC fast charging at 155 kW to charge it from 10% to 80% in about 25 minutes. The smaller battery charges at 82 kW, which takes 40 minutes to reach the same level. All models include a heat pump and V2L technology, which lets you power other devices with the car’s battery.

BYD launched a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version, called the DM-i, in October 2025. This car fits into the BYD lineup below the larger BYD Atto 3 Evo.

Yuan Up to Atto 2: Global Naming Story

BYD sells this car under different names around the world. In China, it is called the Yuan Up, named after the Yuan dynasty. It is the Yuan Pro in Brazil, Mexico, and other parts of Latin America. In Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia, the company calls it the Atto 2.

The European model features unique bumpers, additional safety features for Euro NCAP testing, and larger batteries ranging from 45.1 to 64.8 kWh. These batteries are not available in every market. In October 2025, Europe also received a DM-i plug-in hybrid version. This model uses a 1.5L gas engine and an 18 kWh battery to drive about 56 miles on electricity alone.

Heat Pump and V2L: Standard on All Trims

The Atto 2 includes a heat pump as standard on all variants — BYD claims this extends winter range by 10–20% vs resistance heating. V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) is also standard — enabling the battery to power external devices, tools, and camping equipment. The heat pump’s operating range is wide — designed to work effectively across a broad temperature range. These features are standard inclusions on all Atto 2 models regardless of battery size or trim level.

The Boost’s 82 kW DC Limitation

UK reviewers criticize the Boost trim for reaching only a peak charging speed of 82 kW. This means a 10–80% charge takes 40 minutes, which is much slower than the 100 kW charging speeds of most competitors. What Car? describes this as slightly longer than rival vehicles, but it is a real problem for drivers.

The Comfort trim changes this by offering a 155-kW charging rate. This allows a 10–80% charge to finish in just 25 minutes, making it competitive with other cars. You should choose the Comfort trim if you plan to take frequent long trips, as it offers faster charging.

Battery Warranty

BYD covers the Atto 2 battery with an 8-year or 155,350-mile (250,000 km) warranty. This offers the best mileage limit of any electric vehicle brand in Europe. The vehicle warranty lasts 6 years with unlimited mileage in most European markets.

The battery’s NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) chemistry degrades by about 2–2.5% each year. This extra-long battery warranty gives you great protection for a long time. Even people who drive many miles remain well covered.

Conclusion

The BYD Atto 2 is a compact car with a battery capacity ranging from 45.1 to 64.8 kWh. It includes a heat pump, a feature that powers external devices via V2L, and a strong 155,350-mile battery warranty. The Comfort model offers a range of 267 miles and fast 155 kW charging, making it a great choice.
